Friends of the Children is a national nonprofit that is breaking the cycle of generational poverty by giving children facing the highest risks the ability to create a new story. We select the most vulnerable children ages 4-6 from high-poverty schools and the foster care system and pair them with a salaried, professional mentor (a Friend) who stays with them from kindergarten through graduation – 12 ½ years, no matter what.

Evaluations on youth who complete the Friends of the Children program show that:

* 83% graduate from high school

* 93% avoid the juvenile justice system

* 98% avoid early parenting

Friends are full-time, salaried professionals who spend 3-4 hours every week with each of their children, teaching valuable life skills, instilling positive behaviors, and helping them grow into responsible adults.

Youth and Friends are the superstars of Friends of the Children - this is an opportunity to celebrate Friends and their dedication to using best practices! Go to friendsofthechildren.org to learn more.

About the Superstar Foundation

The Superstar Foundation was founded in 2007 with a two-fold mission:

  • To identify and reward individuals who use data to improve outcomes for underserved individuals, families and communities.
  • To promote and advance transformative relationships as the driving force to outcome achievement in the social services sector;

As health, education and social services continue to progress towards better measurement of outcomes, the Superstar Foundation believes that transformative relationships and a commitment to data-based decision making at the level of engagement is the key to all long-term, sustainable improvement in the lives of those we serve.
